Focus Groups

What is a Focus Group?

A focus group is a group of people that participate in discussions about a particular subject or product, where people provide their feedback and their opinions on the topic, giving the leader of the group qualitative information to help with their research.

How many people are usually involved?

5-10 people

Why is it different to a survey?

It is different as it is more of a discussion where people make conversations from questions asked.

Why use focus groups?
  • To get people's opinions
  • Different points of view
  • Lots of detail
  • Subjects can be elaborated
  • More understanding
  • People feel more comfortable with other people.
However, a focus group may get too personal for someone's liking and then the focus group wont be successful, and people may have disagreements that get out of hand, so try and keep it professional and not too personal.
